This Italian Sausage Orzo pasta is flavorful, quick and even better only requires one pan. Its a great filling meal for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 1lb Italian Sausage

  • 1/2 medium onion, diced

  • 3 - 4 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

  • 1 cup uncooked orzo pasta

  • 2 cups chicken broth

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

  • 3 cups packed baby spinach, chopped

  • 1 cup parmesan cheese, shredded

  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Steps

  1. Put the sausage in a large pot on medium heat cooking for 5 minutes.

  2. Add the diced onion and continue to cook another 5 minutes.

  3. Add the minced garlic, red pepper flakes and orzo pasta, stir for 30 - 60 seconds.

  4. Add the chicken broth and heavy whipping cream. Bring to a low bubble, lower the heat and cook for 10 minutes stirring occasionally to prevent the orzo from sticking to the bottom.

  5. Add the spinach and parmesan cheese. Stir in well and remove from heat. Cover to thicken for 5 minutes and serve with additional shredded cheese

Tips

  • I prefer to use ground mild Italian sausage.

  • I personally don't think you can use too much spinach in this dish.
